One of the benefits of being affiliated to the RHS is that our club can enjoy a free group visit to RHS gardens. We decided to visit RHS Hyde Hall in Essex two years ago but the pandemic got in the way. We finally got there this August and our visit coincided with the annual flower show so there was even more to see (and buy) than usual.
The garden is most famed for its dry garden which is never watered and this became something of a talking point as we all noted the plants that would thrive in our increasingly hot and dry summers. There was so much inspiration for every kind of gardener, from sunken dells to a winter garden; from a global vegetable garden to vast sweeping borders. A really wonderful Sunday outing – just 90 minutes from Hackney.

Plants, plants, plants… many conveniently identified!
